Last weekend I read in The Age, an extract from the speech by Helen Garner at the inaugural Stella Prize, awarded last month in Melbourne to Carrie Tiffany for her second novel Mateship with Birds.
I love Garners writing! She's so bloody honest it's breath-taking. She always puts herself out there and says what most of us are too frightened to say. I couldn't find The Age extract again this morning, but I found it elsewhere and, in light of this being the week for book design prize giving, you should all have a read if you haven't already.
