Hi all,

Not much activity here, so I thought I'd share this satirical blog post about eBooks.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

"Editor: But you gotta admit, we made a terrific cover for it."

  1. This is hilarious Liam and a bit close to the truth. But I am wondering what sort of cover art he'd get for $300. I am imagining a virtual book store with largely self-published and rather unsightly covers, and horribly spaced text. And it must be said, you can never question the value of a good edit.

  2. Glad you enjoyed it.

I do hope the future is one where publishers really embrace the transition to digital books and find a way to make it profitable and maintain high standards of design and editing.

I imagine that the ebook industry will go through a similar phase as the iTunes app store in its race to the bottom... then bounce back as users demand higher quality.

  3. In the education book industry making an ebook is still an expensive exercise. As the textbook needs to be coded in XML and all the pedagogical features have to be translated to be useful in an ereader.

  4. True, eBook conversion is much easier for certain genres.

But isn't it just a case of reorganising the information - even in education books?- to be linear, in-line formatting? Assuming the most generic, basic ePub.
